A script that will live in infamy - Pearl Harbor Reviews

President Roosevelt said that December 7, 1941 was "a day which will live in infamy." Not if Hollywood has its way, though. The new, much-hyped, star-studded summer blockbuster PEARL HARBOR makes the earth-shattering sneak attack seem, sadly, forgettable. Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett play two childhood buddies dodging bombs at the "infamous" naval station who want us to think that the most compelling action underway entails a boy-crazy nurse (Kate Beckinsale) they are both involved with. The surprise attack, and other war episodes, are just scenery -- for the schmaltzy love triangle story, which never gets off the ground. Obviously, the intent of the filmmakers was to provide a love story, ?a TITANIC (1997) for audiences to latch onto and humanize the tragedy. The problem is that (spoiler alert!, spoiler alert!) *nothing* happens to these people during the attack. When it finally comes, nearly an hour and a half into the sappy, stock story, the attack plays out as this fire and light show -- a sure visual feast -- that is completely disconnected from the rest of the movie. Instead, the pic insists on bumbling on about this story we really do not care about -- even while the story we *do* care about (the spectacular attack) is unfolding in the background. As a result, the writers have to add an additional military exploit at the end (as if the "day which will live in infamy" was somehow not enough), to resolve the drawn-out story line, even after the main course has been well digested. The bookends of the film, involving the Battle of Britain and General Doolittle's expedition (bombing Tokyo) have the feel of sloppy afterthoughts. Especially with the Doolittle episode at the tail end of the film, it is obvious to us that the entire mounting of the episode is but a charade to resolve the love triangle by attrition. Once we know that, we can discern that all these guys about to fly out to Japan to get killed are totally dispensable to the scriptwriters -- why should *we* care? This is a terrible way to honor WWII vets -- by turning them into toy soldiers! The early part of the film set in Britain, is not much better. It is a slap in the face to our English friends to suggest that they, who endured constant bombing under the Lufwaffe while America passed neutrality laws, were really uninspired about the war and it took an American hotshot (Affleck) to come and rally them. (The neutrality laws, historians point out, would have made this entire episode impossible because Affleck, who plays an active duty soldier, could not have legally been sent.) At over three hours of length, and $140M to make, this movie is a total waste of time, money, and effort. If you want to pay tribute to "The Greatest Generation," read the book (by Tom Brokaw). Tripe with a capital t - Pearl Harbor Reviews

What more can I say about this truely appaling film, Surely it could have been better? more accurate, maybe even you know Balanced. And maybe the director could have kept the camera still for even maybe a second, people won't get bored if the camera isn't moving all the time, trust me I should know, I am an oscar winning director, although I won't tell you my name, I'll give you a clue, my initals are PJ, okay, ciao!

Terrible and inaccurate - Pearl Harbor Reviews

I'm a huge military buff on the epic battles between the IJN and U.S.N. of World War 2.And I never thaught I would say this but that horrible movie made me want to hail the emporer and jump into a Vale and torpedo the crap out of Bay's so called Pearl Harbor.I'm not evening going into the plot cause there is no point in it.Either you slept in history class and loved it or admire WW2 vets and hated it.The scene of the big explosion on Arizona was great and the slow death of the Oklahoma was truly tragic and got me good. But besides those two rare examples the rest of the Pacific fleet is treated like crap.Where is the Nevada's valiant dash which raised so many spirits that tragic morning.Plus I loved the super carrier in the Japanese task force, how the crap did we beat them in that war with that much firepower at their command. With older movies like Tora,Tora,Tora and Midway there was a real effort to try and make things as historical as possible. Not with Bay it just seems like he throws in whatever is at hand.Modern warships like Burke class guided missile destroyers and super carriers. My last grip is why are there two Army Air Corps men on a battleship watching a boxing match.I waited along time for a modern WW2 naval war movie that is great and I suppose I can wait an even longer time now.Just one request please oh please I hope Bay dosen't decide to ruin any more Pacific theater opperations.

Bilge - Pearl Harbor Reviews

This movie has such classic lines as "Get out of the way!" and "We're sinking!" (yelled by an anonymous sailor as he stands on the deck of a sinking ship) really? is that what sinking means? a boat full of holes filling up with water, and going under the surface? this movie is so stupid, that i was nearly in shock. how many times does ben affleck yell 'get out of the way'? how many actors say their lines instead of yell them? the lines are amazingly stupid. instead of allowing the viewers to see the action there is a running commentary like 'we're dying....we're sinking' really? doesn't almost every american already know about what happened at pearl harbor? does this movie have to have the actors telling the audience what is happening at the same time the images are showing it, and the audience already knows anyway? what an exercise in redundancy. and why is pearl harbor so exagerrated as a 'disaster' anyway?? it's ridiculous...several thousand americans died, but the american air force killed MILLIONS of japanese civilians when they firebombed 67 japanese cities, and that was BEFORE we nuked them! the pearl harbor incident is so overstated. so the japanese lied, and then attacked us. how many times did the U.S. government lie to the native americans, kill them, take their land, and then lie even more? america has such a double standard when it comes to justice.

Piece of crap - Pearl Harbor Reviews

They took a tragic tale that could've probably been one of the best movies ever and created crap. Sure the attack was well staged and the bombing in Tokyo was done pretty well also. But other than that the film lacked everything. They had the wrong cast, bad acting, and the love story completely sucked. No wonder it "bombed" at the box office. Take out the love story and you got yourself a 2 hour good movie, but with it you lost any chance of having a classic film.

Amazing special effects! - Pearl Harbor Reviews

Okay, I admit- I like this movie even though it's not the best film ever. The story was cheesy, which gave the actors poor dialogue to work with, but overall this film moved me. The Dec.7th battle is awesome- try watching it and keeping dry eyes!

Horrible - Pearl Harbor Reviews

I hated this movie. The story line was stupid and utterly unbelievable which ruined it. Many key aspects of the story were simply impossible- could not have occured. Did they do no research or did they have no common sense? Probably a little of both.

It blows - Pearl Harbor Reviews

Usually i love all the movies i see, but this one was- was so so PATHETIC, it was completely of the point. And they added a cheesy love thing that firstly is beside the point of Pearl Harbor. And the acting was also pathetic Ben Affleck really dissapointed me with this one. He's usually a lot better. The only good thing about this movie was that the leading guys are f***ing hot. And that's the only thing i liked it was completely a waste of my time and money.

A bad love story - Pearl Harbor Reviews

My reasoning for the grade I gave this movie. The visual effects were awesome. You almost forgot that the attack on Pearl Harbor wasn't happening in real life. It's scary to imagine that real people were attacked like this and survived. This was the only believable part of the story since it was based on true events. The rest of the movie is crap. The movie is more about a bad love triangle and it's a pathetic. The acting was horrible as with the direction of the movie. Here is the movie in a nutshell: a girl falls in love with a guy but believes that he is killed so sleeps with his best friend thus becoming pregnant. Then her true love shows up and she breaks his heart and hers b/c she can't be with him b/c of the baby. The best friend/father to be ends up getting killed (with no chance of a resurrection) so she marrys her true love and he raises his best friend's son. THE END. Like I said it's pathetic.

No justice to history= bad movie - Pearl Harbor Reviews

This is bad to the point of negative stars. Poor acting, pathetic truths to what really happened with substitution love story? One word: BAD! SKIP IT!

False advertising! - Pearl Harbor Reviews

I have never forgiven this movie for the false advertising they did. The previews were epic war scenes. It was going to be one of the best movies ever. I really couldn't wait for this movie to come out. Once I saw it a friend commented that it was Titanic in Hawaii. That was too kind. This movie was a love story with maybe 15 minutes of war scenes. Why did they think I would enjoy a bait and switch like that? All I really want out of a movie, any movie, is some entertainment. That's all. How can I enjoy a movie when I've been lied to about what the movie is about. Cuba Gooding was in the commercial as much as he was in the movie. Absolutely Terrible. Don't force feed me a made up romance when I am there for bombs, history and heroes. I think everyone knew going into Titanic that it wasn't just about the ship sinking. Everyone already knew the romantic story and that made it pretty good. This was a date movie that was disguised as a war movie. This was a sheep in wolves clothing. Terrible.

Ok.. - Pearl Harbor Reviews

The movie itself was ok, the acting ,not excellent but not horrid, the bombing and fighting episodes could have been better. So all I can say is that this movie was "ok".

Adapted from a harrelquin novel! - Pearl Harbor Reviews

This bloated excercise in stupidity. With $180 million spent on this flick, they could have afforded a decent script. Historically inaccurate, the terrific battle sequence is set aside for a desperate romance laced with awful dialogue and wooden performances. Even the Faith Hill theme song is terrible.

Wow... this movie really sucked - Pearl Harbor Reviews

I wish this web site would allow a one word review, because if it could I would simply write. RETARDED! I don't think I have ever heard a sappier crappier script than this. And that scene where they run through the parrachutes is the worst thing I have ever seen. If you want a love story, rent "beauty and the beast", and if you want a war movie get "Platoon" STAY AWAY FROM THIS CRAP!!!

Tried to be to many things, failed at all of them - Pearl Harbor Reviews

Just a poor effort of a movie. Lame plot, pathetic excuse for a love story, and little historical accuracy. It tried to be a gripping love story, but failed because the characters were neither believable or likable. It tried to be a war story, but fell short due to poor acting and obviously PG rated violence. It's sad that some people (women)actually liked this movie, it's an example of our expectations being lowered by Hollywood crap. Afleck and Hartnett should have lost their SAG cards for this tripe.

Great war movie!!! if your a female - Pearl Harbor Reviews

No guy in his right mind would consider this a true war movie. Drivel at best. This one belongs in the chickflick section, not the best war movies of all time. Apocolypse Now is a war movie, this is a tube of Vagisil and a pint of Ben and Jerrys.

So many ways to spell awful.. - Pearl Harbor Reviews

The acting in this movie was absolutely terrible. Ben Affleck was brutal and Josh Hartnett has no future ahead of him if he keeps this up. How can you screw up a movie this badly. Oh what it could have been... They try and copy titanic by making a sappy love story, and it was just stupid!! Pitiful filmmaking. I didn't for once feel sad or bad for the soldiers because it was not believable.

This has to be the most unconvincing movie ever - Pearl Harbor Reviews

i'll cut the chase and go straight to my point. This movie is UNREALISTIC AND UNCONVINCING. 1st: afleck can talk his way through anything, ie sweet talking himself into passing an eye test, sweet talking himself out of some serious trouble right after nearly crashing a combat plane for fun. 2nd. spoilers... ..... .... ... .. . at the end after the attack, the japanese admiral says we have awaken a sleeping lion, right after his subordinate told him the attack on pearl harbor was a sucess. W T F? why the hell would you attack the USA in the first place if you know you are going to awaken a "sleeping lion"? 3rd. the whole love story stinks! it is so predicable, as i saw the return of afleck as soon as the two had an affair. it is soo unconvincing!

When did wwii actually start? - Pearl Harbor Reviews

September 3rd 1939 - NOT December 7 1941. The Brits had been doing it hard - and alone - for over two years before the USA got involved, and one would have to wonder if they would have bothered at all if it hadn't been for the Japanese attack at Hawaii. Same in WWI too. Does The Battle of Britain, Dunkirk or the London blitz ring a bell? Hollywood should collectively hang its head.

Incredibly horrible!!! - Pearl Harbor Reviews

Pearl harbor has all the makings ot be a great movie. A premise to tell one of the worst disasters in American history the way it should be told. But the screenwriters and directors and producers had another idea. The love story between the three is so predictable, you know what will happen between them next. The only thing worth watching is the actual scenes at Pearl Harbor. The story, acting, and directing is bad. Ben Affleck should not be allowed to act in any movie.

What an oustanding movie! - Pearl Harbor Reviews

When i saw this i couldn't belive it. The story line was great. Friends betreying friends, friends dying. I really liked it. It was really long but worth it. The acting was so beleive able. I wish nobody had to go through that. But they did. I think they pertreyed the attack on Pearl Harbor the way it was. Plus it also had a had a love story and friendship story. Great movie. You should see!

The most underated film of all time - Pearl Harbor Reviews

If Titanic could smoke the Oscars, I don't see how this movie can't even get some decent reviews. Patriotic, realistic, breath-taking... These are just some of the words that describe this film, not to mention "romantic" for the female audience. The acting is simply outstanding. I can't think of anyone who can even come close to play Kate Beckinsale's role. Her character is the one who ties the entire movie together, and she completely nails it right on the spot. Ben Affleck has his best performance since Armageddon. And as to Josh Harnett: nothing bad to say there. Last, but not the least, Alec Baldwin has done a wonderful job as the supporting character. The graphics throughout the movie is no worse than Titanic, if not better. The bombing scene is catastrophic. But still, this movie was not even nominated for best picture, how cruel!!! The thing that bothers me the most is that the story in this movie is much better than Titanic, but it's not being appriciated in any aspect. I think people who don't find this movie as satisfying as expected the first time they watch it are probably confused about the story or don't appriciate the love affair among the three main characters, or both. If that's the case, my advise is to watch it again (or in my case, watch it 3 times). Then you'll understand the true meaning of "war is hell" and start appriciating the greatness of this film.

D - for dumb humor - Wedding Crashers Reviews

I am simply let down everytime I get talked into going to an american made comedy. Who's rating these comedy movies... post pubescent boys and girls? I guess if you think bare breasted women, stupid cliches' and just plain dumb writing is funny... more power to you. I'll stick to the foreign comedies, until Hollywood can produce something more funny than this type of garbage.

A mockery of an american tragedy - Pearl Harbor Reviews

Although the special effects were outstanding, this film totally distorted what really took place. Because the film makers didn't want to upset anyone they had to sugar coat most of truth. This was our grandparents sept. 11 and it should be treated like it. The fact that people quote this movie as historic fact is revolting. Oh and the plot was obvious.

Wow, titanic set against wwii! - Pearl Harbor Reviews

Ok here's how it goes, you take a large event in history that everybody knows and you add a dramatic love story that NEVER HAPPENED!! Instant epic, just add water and cook for five minutes on high, add about 100 mil+ get some big names, mental masterbation! I feel the tears coming on...

Bombs away - Pearl Harbor Reviews

This was one of those movies I actually looked forward to watching. Man, did I regret that decision. This was composed of a bad love story that just reeks of stupidity and too much machismo by Affleck and Hartnett. Avoid this crap, even if you want to see good action scenes.

Criminal - Pearl Harbor Reviews

This movie is an insult to the American Veterans of World War II. This was projected as a serious movie about the bombing of Pearl Harbor, but what it really is a cheap love story using the events of 1940-1941 as a backdrop, terrible movie.

An embarrassing failure - Pearl Harbor Reviews

"Pearl Harbor" is one of the worst movies of the year. The film is uninspired, shockingly unoriginal, lacking in truth. It confirms the fact that Michael Bay is not a great filmmaker at all, he is nothing more than a showman, a student movie-maker who, for some reason, is allowed to make big, impersonal, Hollywood films. It's hard to believe that Randall Wallace, who penned the wonderful "Braveheart," wrote the script to this "Pearl Harbor." Perhaps he did have a good script until Bay ruined it with his childish visions. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Michael Bay obviously intended "Pearl Harbor" to be a film ranked with past Hollywood greats. They also, no doubt, had high hopes of being nominated for an Oscar or two. Yes, "Pearl Harbor" is another grand Hollywood epic in the tradition of "Titantic" and "Saving Private Ryan," but the film has a weak structure, no emotional truth, and poor editing. "Titantic" won an Oscar for Best Picture not because it's a big Hollywood film, but because James Cameron knew how to tell a story. Pearl Harbor lacks a strong, emotional story. It's as if Bay took the roughest draft of Randall Wallace's screenplay and shot the film without any rewrites. "Pearl Harbor" is a movie based on other movies. The chaotic attack scenes from "Saving Private Ryan." Innocent people sliding down the sinking ships as if they were auditioning for the sequel to "Titanic." Thousands of planes attacking battleships, filmed like an action sequence from "Star Wars." "Pearl Harbor" expects us to be moved by its immaculate and dishonest notion of romance, while using a historic tragedy as fodder for popcorn-movie extravaganza. Imagine if audiences around the world told Steven Spielberg that "Saving Private Ryan" was the best crowd-pleasing, guilty pleasure, popcorn movie they'd ever seen. "Pearl Harbor" will be put right next to other action films like "The Rock" and "Con Air." "Titanic," too, had a fictional love story set against a historical backdrop. But director James Cameron infused the romance with truth and compassion. In "Pearl Harbor," Bay is too busy trying to create an "old-fashioned" Hollywood romance. The film's love story is self-conscious and contrived. In "Titanic," Cameron gave his characters, Jack and Rose, strong, identifiable goals, and each scene in the film raised the stakes and revealed their internal conflict. Jack is a third-class citizen in search of a new life; Rose is a high class girl struggling to understand her high-class values, in need of someone to love her the way she is. When these two characters meet, we can truly understand their yearning for a better life and their longing for each other. In Pearl Harbor, the characters played by Affleck and Beckinsale fall in love, but there is a falseness in this, because, in the beginning, Beckinsale's character is arbitrary -- she could be any beautiful girl and it wouldn't matter. Why? *SPOILER ALERT* Because besides for falling in love with a handsome pilot, her character has no strong goal. Her character exists because Bruckheimer wanted her to exist. There is nothing at stake for her until Affleck leaves. "Pearl Harbor" is clearly a film inspired by the sweeping scope and structure of "Titanic," as well the as the chaotic war scenes in Spielberg's "Saving Private Ryan." Perhaps Bruckheimer believed that, by combining elements from the two films, he would be able to create the ultimate epic. Indeed, the film does have all the conventional elements of a Hollywood epic: a sweeping, romantic score by Hans Zimmer; lush, colorful cinematography; breathtaking action sequences; and beautiful leading actors. All it is missing is a good director, and a soul.

Visually and emotionally moving - Pearl Harbor Reviews

While watching this movie in theatres I experienced so many different emotions- happiness, pain, sadness, and anger. I watched past events in America's history replayed and for once was able to understand what it was like back then, how one of America's first true tradgedies affected and shaped the ones living before it. The war scene in this movie was rather long and I found myself wondering when it'll be over with, not for the fact that I was bored or I didn't think it was filmed well (for it was), but for the reason that I was shocked, the amount of death and pain that those people experienced will never amount to or be close to any type of pain I will ever experience in my life. It touched my soul, I was not able to cope seeing all the hurt and death, the reality of it all. Another reason that this movie is so special to me is that rather than just being a war movie, with the death and gore, it really focused on the lives of a particular group of young americans. How they found love, how they lost it and how much of a part the war played in it. It was a sweet love story and while many may mock this movie because of the love story I applaud it for while stripping me emotionally with the tragedy and death, it restored my faith in love and the kindess of the human spirit, how we may overcome our tragedies and build above it, while all the time never forgetting.

P e a r l h a r b o r - Pearl Harbor Reviews

Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor, was 2001's Titanic, although Titanic had terriffic special effect, actiong and a very good story line, but Bay's Pearl Harbor was a true flop. The story starts out with Danny & Rafe, played by Ben Affleck, and Josh Hartnett, the both go to war, and meet a nurse that they both fall in love with played by Kate Beckinsale. In the first 90 min. of the filmm we get into the love triangle, and I gotta tell, it is the worst love triangle you will see in a movie, and we get to know about war startagies. Then come the best part of the film, when Japan attcaks Pearl Harbor. All the scenes where the planes were bombing the ships, and all the wounded men and the nurses trying to help the injured, were all fantastic, although all the attcak scenes were really cheesey, where in one part, where thhe bomb falls above the sky, and lands right in the Arizona and lands on the magazines, and explodes. Just after the plane sequence, Rafe and Danny show up and starts to play "CHICKEN!?!?!?" Oh my GOD!!! Come on would you really play chicken during war. So later on Danny and Rafe destroy 6 or 7 planes, and the both decide to go to Jimmy Doolittle's Raid. But, before they do Evlyen, tells Rafe, that she is pregnet with Danny's baby. So they go to Doolittle's Raid and lean how to fly big plane, and go and bomb Japan, except, that they took off to early, and have no oil, and the planes were shot by flak, so they end up in China and crash, were Japan were invading, and so Danny and Rafe fight down Japan, but Danny saves Rafe by getting shot, and eventually Danny dies, and Evlyen is heartbroken. So Rafe married Evlyen, and raised Danny's son. The acting was really horrible, and, I mean who in the world hires Ben Affleck in a war movie!?!? Michael Bay would. Josh Hartnett looked like a Calvin Kline modeler, who plays solider dress up!!! Michael is such a perfect director for crappy films, like Armageddon, The Rock, and so on, Bay is America's crappiest director of all time. Yes the special effects were awesome, so are some of the attack scenes, but that is not the point!!! Even the Director's Cut wasn't even that good, the only thing they show is thhe Director's Cut, was more gore!!! Pearl Harbor could have been a great war movie epic, but noooo, Michael Bay had to direct the film with the wrong cast!!!

Pearl harbor sucked - Pearl Harbor Reviews

Pearl Harbor is the biggest piece of trash Hollywood has ever spit out. And let me tell you, Hollywoood has spit out some trash over the years. But at least a lot of it was entertaining. But not Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor couldn't have strayed farther from reality. Except for about 5 minutes of an attack sequence, director Michael Bay got EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING wrong. First, the lame, grossly acted and disgustingly played out love story that pervades the entire movie. It's nothing short of ridiculous. Michael Bay feels the need to shred a national tragedy to pieces by intertwining it with a love triangle involving...Ben Affleck. (Need I say more?) In fact, the movie barely refers to the event that shook America to its core and changed history forever. It's perverse and stupid. Cuba Gooding, Jr., Mr. Show Me the Money, is reduced to a third-string character with barely any development or function. I think Team America got it right when it plays the song End of an Act: "I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark, When he made Pearl Harbor. I miss you more then that movie missed the point, And that?s an awful lot girl. And now, now you've gone away, And all I'm trying to say, Is Perl Harbor sucked and I miss you I need you like Ben Affleck needs acting school, He was terrible in that film. I need you like Cuba Gooding needed a bigger part, He's way better then Ben Affleck. And now all I can think about is your smile, And that sh*tty movie too, Perl Harbor sucked and I miss you Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies. I guess Perl Harbor sucked, Just a little bit more then I miss you."

Why does michael bay get to keep on making movies? - Pearl Harbor Reviews

*music* I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark, When he made Pearl Harbor. I miss you more than that movie missed the point, And that?s an awful lot girl. And now, now you've gone away, And all I'm trying to say, Is Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you I need you like Ben Affleck needs acting school, He was terrible in that film. I guess Pearl Harbor sucked, Just a little bit more than I miss you. (song from Team America: World Police) This great song says it all. Can't believe a movie about this major catastrophy, with all its consequences, has been allowed to be turned into a so light and empty affair.

Should've picked better actors, work on plot more! - Pearl Harbor Reviews

One of the best movies about Pearl Harbor was Tora Tora Tora!. With the release of this film, the war scenes were definintly worth 5 bucks watching in the theatre. But Ben Affleck just ruined the story and plot, his acting is some the worst that I've seem in a while. The only movie he was good in was Dazed and Confused, he plays an ***** very well, but not romantic. Josh Harnett gave it his all and you can respect him. The script definently needed working on and did not follow history that well and focused WAY too much on the love story. It should've had an atleast equal balance, and should've, And I mean really should've shown more of the story from Japanese point of view. It makes them look like they were just completely evil people and did it for little reason, no the Japanese had a good reason to bomb us and they weren't evil demons, they were samurais (don't know how to spell it) I bet if Michael Bay had put more of the Japanese, and more of the war plot, and picked better actors, this movie would've been even better than Titanic. But for now the best war movies are: Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, and Enemy at the Gates. Comment on this....

Pearl harbor - Pearl Harbor Reviews

When I saw this movie I thought it really wasn't a good movie, and some of the facts were not really not true, but then I bought the directors cut. So I thought the Director's Cut was a lot better than the regular virsion. My original grade was a D+.But the Directors Cut cut off the parts you really need for this movie. I do not like Micheal Bay, all his movies are CRAP!!! Armageddon sooo dumb, The Island, cheesy action and a little to short, and the Rock, well I did like that one and Pearl Harbor Director's Cut. This movie didn't have good romace at least James Cameron knows how to make a fake love story beliveable. Unlike Micheal Bay, but had some great battles with the Japs and America. The acting was not to strong but well balenced. It was just that Ben Affleck's character, BLAH!!! Kate Beckinsale and Josh Hartnett's character were stong and had a lot of potential. The story was pretty weak and dissapionting. Basicly it's about two young pilots who were friends for a long time and go to WWII. And Rafe (Ben Affleck) & Danny (Josh Hartnett) fall in love with the same girl Evlyin (Kate Beckinsale). I did feel pretty sorry for Danny when he died. I almost cried. Overall I recommend the Dirctor's Cut, but not the original virsion. It won't be one of your favorite War movies, but you will enjoy it. So I do recommend the Dirctor's Cut ONLY!!!

One of the worst movies ever made - Pearl Harbor Reviews

This movie coulda been so so good. But no, the acting is terrible, and the cheep love story is boring and phoney. This movie could have had such potential.

I cried - Pearl Harbor Reviews

Yes I cried and you know that you did too! This movie was great. It was the movie that tuned me in to Ben Affleck. I wasn't too crazy about his acting, but this movie gave him a push in the right direction!

Very good movie! - Pearl Harbor Reviews

Pearl Harbor is a very underrated movie. I can understand how some people think the love story is the main idea of the plot, but it really isn't. The thing is, there really couldn't have been a decent-length movie without it. The actors were good, but it was the visuals that really make the movie. The battle scenes were done incredibly well, and the story was well done too. I'll be honest, I never cried after Titanic, but I cried sooo much after this movie. I'm not sure why, but I think I just liked the characters more in this movie than in Titanic. Anyway, this movie is very good, and if you haven't seen it you should!

Trash - Pearl Harbor Reviews

Michael Bay is America's irritating producer, director, and filmmaker of all time! Texas Chainsaw Massacre was so bad, and loud. Armageddon! OMG!!! Armageddon wasn't even real, and incredibly fake. The Rock, it was okay, I have to give Michael Bay for The Rock. Now comes Pearl Harbor. I hated the story. Almost fell asleep. But, all the fight senes were pretty good, and the visuals were awesome. This movie even had the wrong cast! Ben Affleck can't even act! Why does Mr. Bay like Affleck. Josh Hartnett is not even good at acting as well. The director's cut was a little better. I truely recommend it to fans were like to watch war movies. I hate you Michael Bay!!! Out of 5 stars, it's like a 2. Such a bad movie!!! If you see this movie, and if you hated it, you will really feel the pain I had. Mr. Bay put no effort to this movie at all!!

Ignard - Pearl Harbor Reviews

I have an idea, lets add a fictional sappy love story with bad actors(Ben Affleck)to every important historical event in American history so Hollywood can have huge boxoffice numbers. Lets hire Michael Bay to screw them up with his all thrills no substance filmaking. Please Jerry Bruckheimer stick to popcorn flicks, leave the important stuff to real film makers.

Pearl harbor- awesome, totally awesome - Pearl Harbor Reviews

I AM A JERRY BRUCKHEIMER FAN AND "PEARL HARBOR" IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES. IT ALSO INTRODUCED ME TO KATE BECKINSALE WHO I THINK IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL HER NEW MOVIE "UNDERWORLD" COMES OUT. I THINK BEN AFFLECK DOES A DECENT ACTING JOB IN THIS MOVIE. HE DOES A GOOD ACTING JOB IN THIS MOVIE AND IN "BOUNCE" WITH GWYNETH PALTROW WHICH I ALSO RECOMMEND. THE ATTACK SCENE IS JUST WONDERFUL, SPECTACURALLY DONE, I OWN THIS MOVIE ON DVD, I THINK IT'S ONE OF THE BIGGEST SELLING DVD'S OF ALL TIME AND IT DESERVES TO BE. IT'S A GREAT MOVIE.

To wake a sleeping giant - Pearl Harbor Reviews

Pearl Harbor is a powerful and moving film. Detailing the attack on the US Naval Base bearing the same name, this historical event is brought to life in a dramatic way. Showing the sorrow and pain of those that not only lived through the event, but also rose to the occasion and battled back from the brink of despair. =My Review= The word awesome doesn't begin to do this film justice. At three hours long, it can seem like a long journey, but when the action and drama begins, it is easy to lose yourself in the movie. The actors do an excellent job bringing the characters to life. When the first attack sweeps the base, the shock and confusion of the event is something that can be felt be the audience. Never before have I witnessed such an attempt to capture the raw essence of war and its affects on a people. Watching this movie is like walking through fire - You are re-forged into something stronger then before. Gifted with a new sense of purpose and love for the freedoms that others have paid for in blood. Many have complained that this film is bogged down with elements of a love story B-Plot, however I feel that this element is required to show what the men and women were willing to sacrifice in the name of their country and freedom. I can only hope that you watch this movie and can see the entire message of the film. =Other Movies You Might Like= If you like this movie, here is a few other films that might interest you: FULL METAL JACKET PLATOON THE DEER HUNTER

B+= director's cut - Pearl Harbor Reviews

For anyone who has not seen the director's cut of this movie, I recommend it. Not too much has been changed, except there is more gore in this version, and I know that sounds bad, but a war movie should have some gore in it. The action/visual effects in this movie are great. All of the effects look real. The acting in this movie isn't great, but its not horrible either. Finally director Michael Bay prooved once again that he can blow ***** up, and make it look really good. I personally think the R-rated version of this movie is better than the PG-13 version, because it has more of a war feeling to it.

Ouch....... - Pearl Harbor Reviews

I felt like I'd been beaten and violated after whatching this film. Let me summarize the ingrediants they used to design this catastrophy. 1) Name your movie after an important historical event and base the plot around something entirely different then the event itself. 2) Throw in a love story so soppy that most members of the audience regurgitate thier consessions purchases. 3) Make sure that the plot doesn't develop at all but only jumps from one silly scene to the next. 4) Load on bad acting to total lack of taste. 5) Make the movie go on for twice as long as it should. 6) Top with some suffering heros that nobody cares about and ridiculous plot conflict resolution. It seems nearly as though they were aiming for a story that would please young girls (of say 8-12). Why then they sprinkled in a few gory war scences I don't know. Anyway, I'm not wasting any more time on describing how much I dislike this film. Please, please, don't watch it.

Pearl harbor - well worth watching - Pearl Harbor Reviews

One of America's greatest disasters has been turned into a brilliant movie. All the action sequences were very well directed with good flying stunts with the planes and visual effects. The acting was fantastic and captured the bravery and determination of all those who were present as well as the great deal of pain. As well as the attack on Pearl, it also features the Dolittle Raid which just shows how American pilots were prepared to bomb Japan, knowing they were likely to die in the process. The storyline is simpler and easier to keep track of than the original Pearl Harbor movie, 'From here to Eternity'. Having Josh Hartnett playing one of the leads is an added bonus. If you haven't seen Pearl Harbor, you're missing out.
